Virtual Reality and Texas Hold ‘Em
HTC VIVEWe now have the Oculus Rift, Samsung’s Gear VR, and, also just announced, Sony’s Morpheus.
With the recent announced me of HTC and Valve’s Vive virtual reality headset it seems HMDs (Head-mounted Displays) are really starting to gather steam. We now have the Oculus Rift, Samsung’s Gear VR, and, also just announced, Sony’s Morpheus. I’m very excited for the Vive as they announced it should be released this holiday season and even more excited to see what Oculus’ response will be as they have not given a release date as of yet. I expect Oculus to make an announcement this week at GDC (Game Developers Conference).
So what does all this have to do with Texas Hold ‘Em? Well I’ve already been imagining a fully immersive Texas Hold ‘Em experience with an HMD. Sitting at a table with other virtual avatars and being able to experience being sat at a table with stacks of chips in front of you and being able to see your cards as a physical object in virtual space. Being able to change the environment around you; perhaps today you feel like playing at a smoke filled bar or maybe you want the experience of being at the World Series of Poker tournament or maybe playing by a cliff-side overlooking the ocean. If you want to get really creative you could even play Texas Hold ‘Em in space! Either way all you need to do is press a button and you are instantly transported to that environment, the possibilities are truly endless.
传奇sf合击It will be some time before HMDs are widely accessible and adopted, if at all, so it’s too soon to know when this will be a possibility for the masses but it’s definitely something to look forward to. I for one will keep an eye on the HMD market and will pick one up as soon as possible and perhaps bring TexasHoldEm.com into the virtual space.
